ARDEN-ARCADE, Calif. — Sacramento County Water Agency says its largest infrastructure project has been completed after a decade of construction in the Arden area, replacing aging waterlines and installing water meters for thousands of customers.
What was installed
In its August 11, 2026 announcement, the agency reported approximately 38 miles of new distribution pipe and more than 3,000 new water meters installed at a total project cost of $160 million.
The project covered the Arden Service Area and was carried out in six stages. The county says some replaced pipes were nearly 85 years old, having been installed during the World War II period.
Why pipes and meters matter
The county says the new infrastructure is intended to improve water delivery, lower the need for repairs on older pipe and improve water pressure available to fire hydrants. Meters provide a way to measure consumption by connection; the agency says the work fulfilled long-standing state requirements to transition remaining unmetered connections.
According to the county, planning included discussions with homeowners and businesses, while some road surfaces were restored through cooperation with its transportation department after installation.
What customers should check
Completion of the systemwide construction project does not prove that no individual connection, billing or service issue remains. Residents who notice unusual water pressure, suspected leaks or confusing meter information should contact their water provider using official customer-service channels.
For reference, the county’s completion announcement provides additional background and names the Arden project as the water agency’s largest completed construction undertaking.
