ARDEN-ARCADE, Calif. — Families now have a new recreation option designed for children with different physical and sensory needs. emPOWERment Park, at 1124 Bell Street near Irma Way, celebrated its opening in late August 2026.

Play spaces designed for more children

The Mission Oaks Recreation and Park District describes the park as a socially inclusive, sensory-integrated playground. Its planned and installed features include accessible play equipment, shaded gathering areas, open turf, picnic space, musical or sensory experiences and a Bankshot court that offers a different form of basketball play.

A September report on the opening described wheelchair-accessible ramps to larger play structures and inclusive swings. The park was built to help children play together rather than assigning separate areas according to mobility needs.

How the project came about

The park occupies approximately 1.43 acres of land provided by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District through its Shine Program. The recreation district says the project originated with an October 2022 groundbreaking, followed by an extended development process. Its public information now identifies the park as open.

The project’s power-related name reflects both the goal of empowering all children and the property’s connection to the local electric utility.

Before visiting

Families should review the district’s official park page for any temporary maintenance notices, and can contact Mission Oaks at 916-488-2890. An accessible playground does not establish that every visitor has the same support needs; caregivers should evaluate individual activities and supervise children appropriately.

The grand opening was in August, not an event scheduled for this weekend. This report is a guide to a recently opened community resource.
