ARDEN-ARCADE, Calif. — A half-mile stretch of Arden Way between Morse Avenue and Watt Avenue now features significant bicycle and pedestrian improvements, but motorists should still check construction restrictions before traveling through the corridor.

What changed on Arden Way

The Sacramento County Department of Transportation describes the first phase of its Complete Streets project as including protected Class IV bike lanes, separated pedestrian walkways, landscape buffers, upgraded crossings and curb ramps, improved bus stops and traffic-signal features.

Reporting in September 2026 described new raised bicycle space and distinctive trapezoidal delineators marking the boundary between walking and cycling areas. These treatments aim to make the corridor less dependent on automobile travel while giving users clearer spaces.

Are lane closures over?

The county’s Road & Lane Closures page continues to list Arden Way from Watt to Morse with daytime impacts, generally 8 a.m.–4 p.m., and a posted end date of December 31, 2026. The project’s master list also identifies Phase 1 as completed. Those records describe different aspects of the work: completion of the main street improvements does not necessarily mean every temporary restriction has been removed from the county’s live traffic list.

The county names Alta Arden Expressway and Hurley Way as possible alternate routes when closures affect traffic. Follow posted signs and work-zone personnel rather than assuming a normal lane configuration.

What happens next

The broader corridor plan contemplates later changes farther west toward Howe Avenue. Future work requires its own design, funding and construction timetable. Residents should not assume a second phase is already under construction.
